As I mentioned at the start of the article, your job isn’t done after setting up a “secure” server. You need to keep it secure.
The only way to do this, is to actively watch security sites such as PacketStorm Security. Also, it is a good idea to subscribe yourself to the announce lists of the services you run such as apache, php, ssh, ftp, etc. This will keep you informed of new versions of the software.
All you can hope for in the security business is to be one step ahead of the cracker. You’ll never be any further, and sometimes if you don’t watch out, you could get one step behind.
