I have used the ALT attribute to place text in the IMG tag. So when you place the cursor over the image file, it would display the text in yellow context box.
It works for MS IE, but not for Firefox, Safari or Opera browser. I think it used to work for the older version of FireFox, but I am not sure if that true. Are there function where you can configure the browsers to display the ALT text? » Post edited 2008-07-05, 04:54pm by storyteller.

I don't know about configuring everything.
I think the problem though is that the alt text is intended to show if the image doesn't load. What you really want is a title attribute. instead of alt="text" try adding title="text". Good luck. |

alt is short for alternate — it’s meant to be displayed as an alternative to the image if either images are off or the image can’t be accessed. thankfully if you have both title and alt defined, ie will use the title. always put tooltips in the title attribute (that one is actually meant to be used for tooltips) and it should work for you everywhere. most validators require an alt attribute but i sometimes put alt="" because it doesn’t make any sense to replace the image with text if the image can’t be displayed.
my mind is like a steel trap! it only hangs on to the big stuff. visit my forums at track7.org
