I don't know where to put this question, so I have done so here.
What is the difference between alpha and beta versions of software release?

i don't know that different publishers treat alpha and beta the same way, but they would all agree that alpha comes before beta at least :)
generally, alpha is barely tested if at all, and beta has been tested by the alpha testers. so alpha statistically has more bugs than beta. some publishers give out alpha versions to a very small group of people, then make some changes based on that feedback, and give out beta versions to a slightly larger group of people. does that help?
