These are pulled mainly from my own posts since I know all the details behind everything I wrote and not for anyone else's stuff. I've used other's suggestions as well, but my stuff is still sitting in my head. I've also added new things along the way.
The Competition General Information 1- The cometition is based on a 4 week monthly pattern. Weeks with 3 days or less in a month (ex. March 1 is a Friday) are combined with the closest week in the same month. 2- Registered users are the only people eligable for any part of the competition 3- All mentions of sites anywhere in this document consist of only sites still in the competition. Step One- Joining the Competition 1- You must have a community rating of at least 20 2- Your site must be nominated 3a- Your site's nomination must recieve 3 "Yes" votes in the first week. b- The "Yes" votes only mean that the site should be in the competition and are not in any way an indication of the users later actions. c- The votes will have no comments with them, simply "Yes" or "No." 4- Any site that gets the 3 "Yes" votes moves on, any site that doesn't does not. Step Two- The Primary Judging 1a- The sites willbe split into x number of groups and will be judged by y number of judges. b- x and y are subject to change based on the number of sites in the competition. 2- The sites will be judged based on the following criteria (not in any particular order) A) content B) Functionability (things on the site work as they are supposed to work) C) General design (color scheme not too distracting, links are able to be found, etc. For a contest with more emphasis on design enter a design contest) c- The judging will be done in an independant manner. Grades of 1-10 (1 being low) will be used. All judges scores will be combined for the final score for each site. 3- The top site from each group move on. 4- The judges will have 2 weeks to complete their judging. Step Three- The Finals 1- The same procedure as Step Two will be followed except the number of judges will be smaller and the judges will only have one week for their judging. 2- The top scorrer will be deemed the winner. Step Four- Site of the Year Award 1- All sites that have won a Site of the Month Award from the time of the previous Site of the Year Award to the current time will be eligible. 2- Site of the Year will be awarded for the month of May (month may be changed until the time of the first competition, at which time the month decided on will be the set month for all future Site of the Year Awards). No Site of the Month Award will be awarded for the said month. 3- Procedure from Step Three will be followed except the judges will be given all month for their judging. Other Things Choosing of judges 1- Judges will be picked from a group of volunteers. All ranks amongst the registered users will be considered equal. 2- Judges may not judge their own site. 3- Judges for the finals will be randomly chosen from the group of judges used in the earlier round. Sites That Have Previously Entered the Competition 1- Any site that has previously won a Site of the Month Award will not be eligible to enter. 2- Any site that is made by a person who has previously won a Site of the Month Award will not be eligible to enter. 3- Any site that moves onto Step Three but does not will is still eligible for entry. If there's anything we need to revise go ahead and say so, that's why this is version 1.

personally, i include functionality in all modern browsers (and internet explorer) to be part of functionality in general. if it only works in ie it's not functional. i'm sure there are people who would not see it that way, so if we want that to be part of the judging then we should mention it explicitly. i know we have a lot of members using firebird/firefox and opera though, so it might take care of itself

What will the website types be:
flash/html or design or cg/professional/programmer or informative/entertaining/community I'm asking what criteria you'll use to divide sites into types... will it be the technology used (flash/html), the "style" of the site (cg......) or the purpose of the site (informative......) or will it be the intended audience or some totally different criteria?? - emk

b- The "Yes" votes only mean that the site should be in the competition and are not in any way an indication of the users later actions.
c- The votes will have no comments with them, simply "Yes" or "No." Do yes and no votes cancel each other? I mean 3 yes, 3 no = 0 Looks interesting, I hope this becomes reality one day.

I don't think so. Actually, now that I think about it some more I don't think you should be able to vote no. Only Yes votes since the no ones dont' really mean anything.

So how will the categorization be done... how will you determine "types" of Website?
Also how often will the competition & judging be done? - emk

Hrmm.. I like the idea of multiple awards for different parts, but I think they would need to be "best design" "best content" maybe? We can't say too much about database driven code because chances are we can't see it
I really like the idea, some time I might code it up - it could take a while though

I like that. Maybe also you could add some design constraints like size (remember the 5k competition).
Or is this competition more for judgeing sites that already exist and were designed for some purpose, rather than getting guys to generate new sites according to a new set of constraints/challenges to test their creativity-under-pressure? - emk

I was thinking more for ones that already exist. But I did get an idea because of what you said.
1 - Sites with flash 2 - Sites with Javascript 3 - Sites with PHP (only a forum doesnt' count) 4 - Sites with multiple of the above (Can that even be done?) 5 - Sites without any of the above Y'all know how much you can do with straight HTML and how those kind of sites compare to those with PHP and stuff.

Honestly I've used some premade Javascript stuff and that's it so I know nothing about how hard it or anything else is.

every technology can be combined on one site AFAIK, after all flash .swf's are treated almost identically to images (you have to <object><embed> but to the browser the things are treated similar), and php sites can have js for form validation and then php for the actual processing of valid form entries.

Great ideas for categorizing the sites. One suggestion is that it's not only sites that just _have_ flash or JS or whatever, but sites that feature it in interesting and novel ways...

Good idea. It wouldn't really be fair to have a site with tons of flash up against one with only flash for the menu (especialy if that menu isn't that good looking anyway).
