It has been months since my last post here. My wife and I finally moved into our new house and it's a blessing. Now with

the basement, being my HQ, I've had time to start networking and exporing other computer options with communication. Ok, to

the point. What I DON'T have:

Windows XP, 2000, ME
Network Hub
Router
Anything faster than 1 GHZ
Money to seriously upgrade

I do have a ZONET USB 2.0 TO RJ-45 CONVERTER with these stats at:
http://www.ditcorp.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId={C3713D36-AAA3-4428-BE7B-68BC73879E4EVEREST3}&ic=LANZNTUN2210&eq=&Tp=

Now I have tested this device on my two Windows 98se machines and networked two computers using this. Now both computers already had a Netgear NIC card, but I ran the VINCENT computer with NIC to the VICE computer, using it's USB, connecting to the ZONEt converter. By the way, those activity lights...argg blinding! It worked. Now I was used to working with a TrentNET USB-ethernet converter. All I had to do was make sure, Auto IP was active in Internet options and the proxi was off. Now, for this ZONEt USB, it states that it NEEDS the proxi on. Scary thing, I hooked it into my friends XP w/ SP2 and it detected the device, but the little network icon on the bottom right said, "Limited or no connectivity." Now, I'm sure the Proxy was not active on his computer here. OK, the question. Why do I need a proxi? I know the ZONEt USB "Needs" it, but why?

Some people get the Elevator while others get the shaft.
