Ok 5 computers, 2 hard wired that both get the internet thru a D-link router.

3 wireless computers, 2 w/ windows xp sp2, and one w/ windows 98.

One XP sp2 computer connects to the router and gets the internet.

The 2nd XP sp2 has a wireless signal but times out when trying to contact DHCP server.

The 3rd w/ Windows 98,is the computer I am concentrating on now, gets a correct address from the DHCP server and a wireless signal, but has no internet connectivity?

I've already...
Pulled Hardware D-link wireless nic from computer, installed the latest and correct drivers and rolled back the drivers, still no connectivity.

Installed latest D-link router drivers.

Made sure there where no 3rd party firewalls and the only executables running are the, D-link Air Utility and Explorer.

Release and Renewed IP address in command.

Unistall, restart, Reinstall, restart, Set settings, restart, restart, still just a wireless signal and correct IP (i.e. 192.168.0.100), no internet.

Made sure two computers where not obtaining the same IP.

Hardwired computer with RJ45 from router to Nic and the internet worked...yayyyy... damn. It needs to be wireless.

Device Manager, I disabled RJ45 Nic card. D-Link Air Utility says, "This Device is Working Properly". and is Enabled.

Control Panel > Network Connections > I added Service and Microsoft Client, still nothing.

Run me by Ideas. I'll pass thru all of em.

Hi jh3si,

Somtimes networking can be a bit tricky to setup -- especially wireless.
First question... What is your router's model number? I've had trouble with the D-Link DI-614+ before.

For the Windows 98 computer, it sounds as if it's not going through the router as a gateway. Can you access the router's web-based admin panel from the Win98 system?
See what kind of IP address and gateway address the DHCP server gave you:
- Open the start menu and click run
- Type in winipcfg
- Hit OK
- WinIPCfg will show information about your different network interfaces as well as the IP addresses:
- The gateway IP address should be the same as your router's
- The Subnet mask and IP address should be valid

For the second Windows XP computer, you should probably config your router to give the second Windows XP machine a static lease. For most D-Link routers this can be done on the DHCP page.
Also, what address is your XP machine getting (after the timeout, it will self-assign an address)? Is it 0.0.0.0 or 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ?
I've had DHCP timeout issues with my DI-624 router and Windows XP SP2, but setting up static DHCP seemed to fix the problem.

A guy gets on a bus and starts threatening everybody: "I'll integrate you! I'll differentiate you!!!" So everybody gets scared and runs away. Only one person stays. The guy comes up to him and says: "Aren't you scared, I'll integrate you, I'll differentiate you!!!" And the other guy says: "No, I am not scared, I am e to the power of x."
