Here is the situatiuon:
Configfree, a laptop Connection wizard says there are no IP problems and the connection from the laptop to router to the internet is there. Numbers assigned by DHCP are all there, the Gateyway, Subnet mask, and IP The connection under Control Panel , Internet Options, Connections is set to Never dial a connection and LAN settings have only the Auto detect IP address checked off. I have turned off SP2's firewall and there are no other 3rd party firewalls. I activate Explorer and go to any web site and it says "internet Explorer could not open the page. Ive tried through a wirells connection , through the on board LAN and through a USB LAN and all the same. Im checking for viruses and malware now Help

Would you believe a broken install (uninstall?) of Norton Internet Security 2002 was the culprit. Removed it (as much as I could) and the connection has returned.
