Edit your /etc/hosts file in any *nix environment as so:
127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net you need to be root to do this. Add additional sites you want to block. Then save. Now your machine thinks ad.doubleclick.net is the server on your machine so it will try to find the page requested at localhost and error (error quickly at that). This has a couple of nice benefits: - speeds up web surfing a bit - doubleclick can't track you anymore |

you can do the same thing in windows, the file is called hosts (no extension) and can be found in %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc -- i think they took this from bsd like they did with most of the internet stuff.
make sure you leave the entry for localhost there! also if you are running a web server on your computer on port 80, you can enter ad.doubleclick.net in the address bar and see your local webserver (as long as you have that line for ad.doubleclick.net in your host file)
my mind is like a steel trap! it only hangs on to the big stuff. visit my forums at track7.org

If you are on Windows and can install, get eDexter, or get eDexterJavaDog for other platforms, it acts as a proxy, it will intercept the call so you won't get 'not found' messages...
