hello!
i'm doing an application on java that needs to be run on different systems, namely windows 98 and linux. i have to run it on linux because i still have 386 and 486 machines that might still be of good use, but unfortunately cannot run windows. right now these boxes run dos. my questions are: 1. can i have linux on these boxes and be able to run my java app on them? 2. i'm fairly new to linux (had it for only a month or so..), is the JRE preinstalled on linux or do i still have to install it? 3. is it possible to have a java app, with GUI, to run on linux without a desktop manager ( KDE for example )? 4. did i posted my questions on the right forum topic, or should i post this on the linux topic here? (...sorry..) thanks in advance! |

if using a java applet then it should run on anything just about. if you have any probs you should just download for one and find out. or just run it on one and find out!!! its not hard to test that way!!is it?

this isn't about applets, it's about java applications. also by now i expect lil_kuya has found a solution or isn't really interested in the problem anymore. if you're still looking for an answer to this you might find someone who knows in the linux forum who doesn't check the java forum.
my mind is like a steel trap! it only hangs on to the big stuff. visit my forums at track7.org
