Hi, my G3 mac has a CD-DVD reader, and I could not play DVD's when I got the computer only last week...so I replaced the hard drive and installed OS9.04 from scratch and I now have an Apple DVD player that recognises my Independence Day DVD, and I get beautiful sound BUT no picture at all...
I can fast forward the DVD and pause it and stop and start it...but no picture no matter what I try to do...I have changed the monitor settings to every type of change possible...all to no avail...the area [zone] setting is set for 4 as that is where I am and the DVD is set for playing area [zone] 4...so there has to be a reason why it does not give me a picture on the monitor...any ideas????

Hi, sorted out my own problems...
rip plastic case apart...
yank out the hard drive...
then put it into a PC...
format the harddrive...
place it back into the Mac...
now it will not overwrite the existing OS, because there is none...
previously when I re-installed the OS, the problem remained...
it has to be intialised...
re-installl OS...
DVD player gets re-installed with the OS...
problem fixed...
