Just worked with Macs

It just so happens that I spent the last semester working with Macintosh computers. I'll say this, you're either a die hard PC user or a die hard Mac user. The interfaces are very different, and the one mouse button on the MAC was enough to frustrate me. Some important things you should know about Macs. If you are going to buy a Mac, get one with O/S 9.x and not 10. 10 uses an Aqua desktop (That's the name) and will not allow ANY other installation of anything that is not 100% made for OS 10 They have the new Jaguar 10 OS but I'm not sure if it fixes that problem. Now OS 10 is supposed to have a stripped version of OS 9 on it to allow for install of software, but it never worked for me. It always gave me an error saying, "You must have Mac OS 9.1 or later to install this application." Though numerically OS 10 is much latter than 9.1, the 10 didn't think so. The interface with Macs are smother and more pleasing to the eye than most PC desktops. Maybe the 21 inch screen helped too ^^. Still, it is worth sitting down and really getting into a Mac just to see what you have been missing or what you're glad you avoided.

Ahem, OS X (10) is a new MacOS based on Unix and therefore cannot run older programs. To deal with this, next to OS X you install a "Classic" environment, meaning OS 9.x, which can run the older programs. Most software developers have rewritten their older software to a OS X version, so there's actually not much of a problem here, only the fact that you have to switch OS's if you want to run a "Classic" program. I'm a fan ever since I started using Macs. If you are a diehard Win/Nix user who likes to bash Macs, at least give it a try before you judge (I don't mean you LT_Fox_Fire). Greetings, daonlyfreez P.S. I'm sure almost everybody agrees that they build the coolest laptops (PowerBooks). Just take a look at the specs (and drool) http://www.apple.com/powerbook/index17.html

I actually like Macs, though I don't possess any new ones. Macs are awesome, very well built machines. I've never had one crash, never, and the one I'm referring to is 10 years old and used regularly.

The comment about being a die hard mac user or a die hard pc user isnt true. I use both, and I love them both and wouldnt give up my mac or my pc.
Although I do seem to be the only one of this kind, for i have never met a mac user that can tolerate a pc, and vice-versa.

I'm a mac user and i've never really used pc's very often. just in school for web browsing or typing up a paper. But i love my mac and i don't think i could stand using a pc for very long. I don't much like os 9 either, i'd rather just stick to os x.

I have been a mac user all my life, and OS X is by far easier to use. The switch from OS 9 to OS X was a bit bumpy, but more than worth it. And as for not being able to install things not made for OS X, that is a rather pointless argument. Pretty much nothing is made for pre os X computers anymore, so you are better off with os X.

Depending on your hardware you could atleast update/upgrade to 7.6.1 or even 8.1 or 8.6. Hard to tell. I guess you'll have to tell us the specs or search on the internet for more info.
And 7.1 may be old (I guess around '94), but if you can upgrade (a bit), you still have a valuable machine. Greetings, daonlyfreez
