Just a little poll for the curious

Do you use:

68k
PPC
G3
G4

Do you use:

preOS7
OS7-9
OSX

I use a PPC 604e clone (PowerComputing) with OS8.6, a bit old, but I couldn't do without it (even though it "only" has 180MhZ, it has 1MB ! level2 cache, so everything flies )

Greetings,

Hehe, I have a Performa 650a I believe, built in 1993. It's still running though. I don't know what OS it uses, it's pretty ancient though. I used to have a Mac II at one time or another.

What is so bad about the 12" Power Book G4? I would gladly trade my ibook for one.

Okay, just to let you know I am the Anonymous guy, I forgot to sign-in. I would never trade in my iBook for that peice of crap Powerbook 12-inch. I debate why the 12" Powerbook is crappy on almost every popular Apple forum. Most of those debates involve my opponent feeling sorry that he bought the 12" morbidly, obese, beast.

What is so bad about the 12" Powerbook?

1. Weight. It is a hefty for a notebook entered in the Super lightweight category. I can find lighter with the same features. Much lighter.

2. Value. You can find a MUCH better notebook for the price, hence the price went down from the original $1700 to $1500. Nobody believed me on this before, but Apple helped me prove them wrong.

3. Toughness. Note as tough as the iBook.

4. Battery. Not as long as the iBook or the new Cetrino Units. Don't even bother arguing, I can prove these with benchmarks from various trustworty magazines.

5. Heating. It heats up fast. Crappy engineering.

6. The G4 isn't that great of a CPU. Frankly, the G3 was much more popular, and is still being improved today.

7. IMO, I prefer the iBooks look.

8. Screen size for price. Do not bring-up portability. 12" laptops do not usually weigh that much for that price.

9. I hear, it only boots into OS 9.

10. Problems of case warping due to heat (Check Maccentral forums).

I also just want to add that the only notebooks I think that are worth buying from Apple are the iBooks and the 15" Powerbook.

Sometimes I think that Apple just made the 17" Powerbook to pretend to keep "innovating", so they can be the first. The reason they were the only company to do it is simply because it is a dumb concept. The point of a notebook is portability, so why in the world would a company make such a obscenly large notebook? They, themselves murdered the portability part of a notebook along with Gateway and their forsaken 600XL which lead to that 12lb Alienware beast.

No offense to MacHeads, but only Apple has the dumb enough zealots and addicts that are willing to buy into their 17" Powerbook idea, and actually pay thousands for it. Then afterwards, they attempt to compare their computer to a BMW or something not knowing half the technical specs.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - Kenny

Three macs in my house. The one I am one now, a brand new imac G4 with 512 megs of ram, 17" screen, and 140 gigs of HD space, running panther. Then there is our older lime imac DV, (slot loading CD drive), which is running whatever came before jaguar. (puma?) Then, last, and definitly least, a mac plus. Tiny, grayish, and :-o It came with a hard drive. I hear they are worth 20 bucks these days.. Kinda sad, seeing it was 3+K when my parents got it. (back in like, 1985.) It is running system 7.5.0 or something.

I have a 12 inch Powerbook that I am quite fond of. In the earlier post where the poster listed his objections to the 12 inch Powerbook I only found one of his objections to be vaild: heat. It does get hot at times but it is better under Panther than it was in Jaguar because the fan comes on sooner.

Too heavy? Come on. I have books that are heavier.
I got it because it was the best deal on a powerbook with a DVD burner.

I also have a 700mz G4 eMac with CDRW. It's been a nice machine as wel.

Over the years I've used a Performa 630, Performa 6214. I have a Powerbook 3400 too but rarley use it anymore. I bout the original iMac - it was good for 3 years and the then display or graphics card died. I didn't repair it because it was over US $400 and I put that money into the eMac instead.

I don't miss OS9 anymore either - I've had 2 crahses in OSX in 3 years (from 10.1 to 10.3). ). OS 7-9 often crashed twice a day for me

i think macs are good for these reasons:
they are a good foot rest
they look good when they are burning in a fire
they are fun to hit with any bat
as you can see macs are over priced gay ass computers in fact i would not even call it a computer i would call it a heap of junk but this is just an opinion from many others of whom
share my point of view.
