Recently, I had the CPU fan replaced. It just die, so whenever the computer is on, it would shut down when CPU becomes hot.
Anyway the new fan is working fine. Except that it did something to Windows (I'm using XP with SP2), particularly with my keyboard. My keyboard are standard 101/102, using PS/2. The keyboard works at boot time, so I can get into BIOS by pressing the DEL key. I can even boot up DOS and the keyboard would work fine. It is only when it is loading Windows into memory that the keyboard won't work. Whenever I boot or restart Windows, it won't load the driver to keyboard. I can go to Windows' Device Manager, and see that it is there, but not loaded. The driver, Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard, can be seen, but there's a little yellow triangle at the corner of icon. The only way I can use my keyboard is to disable the driver, and then enable the driver in the Device Manager. I've already tried using different keyboard, and even doing a clean install of Windows XP. Not of this work, and only disabling and enabling the driver would make it work. Is there anything I can do to the registry to make it see the driver when Windows is booting/loading up? Did installing the new fan somehow muck up the IRQ of the Windows PS/2 port? When I look at the property of the driver (after disabling/enabling the driver), in the Resource tab, it shows IRQ as 1.
Dreams are stories, but my life is just one bad dream. :P
