How the heck do I SEE a Bad Sector or SOME kind of information that says "BAD FRICKEN SECTOR" Chkdsk /r Tells me Jack squat In the windows recovery Command line screen. Fixed one or more errors....What the heck does that tell me? Nothing. I'm so ticked Norton and every other Disk scanning program took away the Disk Map. That way I could at least SEE a bad sector. Does Windows XP have a Log file or SOMETHING that tells me exactly what was fixed? If it was a bad sector? SOMETHING/.

Think I found one way, though it doesnt say "Bad Sectors" Chkdsk /p gives a brief but informative scan and if there are bad sectors it will say "Found one or more problems on Drive"

Found one or more errors on the volume? Whay the heck is that supposed to mean. Why cant it just say "Bad Sectors found." Dang it I am so pissed off. All I want is a "B" A picture of a drive map Some dam thing that tells me point blank "THERE IS A BAD SECTOR ON THE HARD DRIVE" How in the bloody world is XP supposed to be so superior when I cant even find out if the Hard Drive is bad. Symptoms of possible HD failures can look like memory problems, Mobo Failures, Evil Spirits, any number of things.

I just found that my hard drive has 32K in bad sectors in a less than a year old laptop. Is that normal? chkdsk refuses to 'repair' it, i tried all the switches but none of them seem to have done anything. The log says that there are no problems with the drive.
What does this mean? do i have a bad harddrive or is it normal? |

bad sectors can't be repaired, but if the os knows their bad it won't use them, and the result is just that your hard drive acts a little smaller . . . unless of course you had files that were stored in the bad sectors, in which case you've lost those files.
