is this a calendar? as far as i know, the only options for (free) windows calendars are chandler and mozilla calendar (sometimes known as sunbird). if you're interested in either of these i can help you find them.

the moz calendar is either a plugin for firebird or the moz suite, or you can get a standalone build (sunbird). i've never used chandler so i can't say much about that. i use sunbird on my computer, you can find links to download it at mozillazine. for chandler, just google for chandler download.
sunbird works, but i'm not sure if i'd say it's good--it's got some user interface things that could use some more work.

Saddly, No Apple has not released a version of iCal for the PC. I also do not believe they are planning to release a verson in the future. If you really want it, why dont you just get an Apple? They can do everything a PC can and more. Riddle me this PC users, can you run Unix apps natively without installing any software?

"Note: this Ical package is totally unrelated to Apple Computers' iCal. This is NOT a port of Apple iCal to Windows !!"
--on http://perso.wanadoo.fr/dockes/ical See, its not related to iCal from Apple. It has nothing to do w/ it. It was probably just the name this guy gave it before Apple made their iCal. I think this site would be a little more popular if it was a port to iCal. EventSherpa now charges (as of Apr 28) to publish their calendars. To get their older 1.2 version of the program, do a google search. But it is a good program. Microsoft Outlook is what I use now. I sync it with my Hotmail account and my events show up on my Hotmail today screen. Yahoo.com also provides a nice online calendar that can also be sync'ed with Outlook. |

but if you are working with business clients interoperability is a must and mac just has two small of a market penetration to be viable; most environments that use macs also need to run some PCs unfortunately--not a question of better/worse, just practical business decision. so people who are looking for cross platform calendars, etc. are design related businesses that need cost effective, no-maintenance solutions. applications to aid their primary work, not applications that require time/effort to learn.

Interoperability can be achieved by using an emulated PC on the Mac, no need to buy extra hardware... If you are looking for/into cross-platform applications, you definately need a *nix-like system... try creating something 'cross-platform' on a WinDoze-PC... Greetings, daonlyfreez

Try eventSherpa (http://www.eventsherpa.com) they seem to have changed their pricing. Now you can purchase just the software (not an ASP) and publish to your own web server.

No, but can you compile and run software without first installing software to do it? No. I've downloaded and installed cygwin+gcc faster than it took to download and install xcode. And, cygwin doesn't require user registration. Don't get me wrong, I love OS X to bits. But, OS X is not better than Windows. Windows is not better than OS X. Linux is not better than anything. BSD rules all. You can export iCal files to the .ics format (standard?) and use it in Microsoft Office or the calendar plugin for Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird. -Gene (the line about BSD being the best is meant to be humorous. but, I do love BSD.) |
