well, it's coming down to the wire. I want a better cpu, more memory and video. I'm still working with 98se and Ive been happy with it even to this day. I justdon't want to shuffle out 200 for an XP hom install and I DONT want a $99 upgrade and I really feel this Vista coming out will be M$ new Windows ME for 2006. My co worker has been pushing me toward Linux but Im just not sure. I have Animation master, Klingon Academy, many old DOS games and applications that i just wish to hang on to. Ive used Open office and Gimp on my 98se and I'm impressed enough with them to dump some other apps. Linux has impressed me with it's 64 bit addressing for a CPU, (they had it way before windows did) and it's open source. My last experience with linux was Red hat back in college and I never looked back ever since.

Just how compatable is Linux to M$ apps and games, how about Dos apps? Im ready to give it a try I just need to gather some more info and make the choice. If not, I'll look into getting win 2000 or just stick with 98se, reguardless if M$ won't support it any more.

Some people get the Elevator while others get the shaft.

windows STILL doesnt handle 64-bit very well. the kernel is 64-bit, whereas the apps are 32. anyway, there's lots of windows solutions for linux. we've got WINE, Cedega for games, cxoffice (excellent program), VMware, and i'm sure there's more.

Here's a coupon for a punch to the face.
