does anyone know how to find out the location using ip address?

you can find some information by entering an ip address into a site like this one, but not sure if that will give you what you're looking for

You can also use tracert.exe (in Windows) or get hints from their hostname.
VisualRoute draws a map and points to the estimated location that is discovered by a database of some kind...

misterhaan : i gave some ip addresses frm some mails and all i got is the message - ________ resloves to ________ i.e., the same ip address that i gave. Here's another link to find it. I tried some ip addresses frm mails here, but only a few were correct and for others it just gave the msg tht it couldn't locate at this time. There'll be 2 received from in the headers in a mail, which is the one to be used to find the location.

Yes, I think there was a notice on their site that the database wasn't large enough. They're trying to get people there to submit their location info about their IP.

yeah if you get that the ip address resolves to itself, that means they don't have any further information on it.

ok. for some addresses it gave a warning. I didn't know which ip to give as there r 2 received frm in the headers (i got frm yahoo mails). So, i thought it must be the servers ip.

Use gethostbyaddr() in PHP, or use tracert.exe or some DNS hostname convertor.
