Problems with my graphics card.

I just found this site on pretty much every search I was doing to find help with my graphics card but I've tried a few things that were mentioned and nothing has helped yet. So I just thought I'd sign up and ask for help myself.
I started with a ATI Radeon 9200 and that card just suddenly died on me. Luckily my friend was able to supply me with a GeForce FX 5200 (not so lucky with how old it was but it worked!). I was happy with that card for a few months and then my PC just started playing up. Whenever I play any kind of video or game the screen switches on and off every few seconds. Usually the PC restarts aswell and then I get an error appear on the screen saying that the computer just recovered from a serious error and it says the graphics card was responsible. I play a lot of online games including WoW so after actually reading up on WoW I found it requires a GeForce 5700 or better. I thought that must be the problem and have just bought a GeForce 6200 AGP 8x and now I need to run my PC on my 5200 just to be able to do anything as the 6200 freezes just as I get to the log in screen. I'm not to good with the insides of computers and usually don't have a clue what to do with them but I suppose I have to learn sometime. One thing I do know is my computer should run this card. I'm not really sure what to say about my system so if you need to know anything about it just say. Any help would be good. Thanks |

I already had the lastest driver and read that the graphics card I was having problems with didn't work with it so I installed older versions. 77.77 and 78.01 and it was still no good. I've tried everything I could think of now and a few things friends have suggested but the graphics card doesn't want to work in my system. I'm working out if I can afford to make my own system but I havn't got a clue how to find out what motherboards might work better with more up to date graphics cards.

are you sure the card itself is good? maybe one of your friends would let you put the card in their computer and see if it causes problems for them too?

All my friends have laptops so thats no good. The card is brand new so it should be fine. The only thing that confused me about that graphics card was that it said on it Graphics Ram DDR2 800. What does that mean?

being new doesn't necessarily mean anything Graphics Ram DDR2 800. What does that mean?
that's the type of memory the card has

Well do you know anything about the card. What kind of system it would need. It's a GeForce 6200 128Mb AGP 8x. I looked up before and didn't see any problems with it. My system is a AMD Anthlon XP 3200+ with a 2.2Ghz processor and 512 Mb of ram. not to sure what else to put.
EDIT: I just did some searching and found that this is my motherboard http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Asrock_MB_VIA_KT600_ASROCK_K7VT6_RAID_RTL » Post edited 2006-10-11, 12:41pm by Wolfsheart.

essentially, the motherboard just needs to support agp 8x in order to use an agp 8x card. the url you provided says your motherboard does support agp 8x, so that's not the problem. it's either some issue with the driver, or there's a hardware problem with the card and you should see about exchanging it.

it sounds like the card is overheating. Do you have any temp mointoring facilities for that graphics card.
DDR ram is when data is sent on both the rising and falling edges of clock cycles in a data burst (Double Data Rate Two Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) |
